Students in grades 2,3,4 and 5 will compete for certificates and prizes by reading from stories, poems, folktales or essays by or about African-Americans

200th Birthday of Thomas Laws


A Reading of the Play

“Rebecca and Thomas:  A Civil War Spy Tale”

written and directed by Sharon W. Dixon

In 1864 Thomas Laws, a slave, and Rebecca Wright, a Quaker, collaborated to provide vital military information to General Philip Sheridan, resulting in a Union victory at the 3rd Battle of Winchester.
