Dance StylesWhat would you like to learn? Waltz - First developed in Vienna as a fast paced dance to the Strauss music of time and later developed into a slower Waltz. Tango - Originated in Argentina and is characterized by catlike walking action and staccato (sharp) head movements. Foxtrot - Smooth, walking style movements yet can adapted to a variety of musical tempi, style on large ballrooms or crowded nightclub dance floors. Swing - Originally called the Lindy hop and born in the south of the United States. This group includes the East Coast Swing, West Coast Swing, and Hustle. Cha Cha - An exciting, syncopated Latin dance which originated as a slowed down Mambo. It can be danced in a variety of atmospheres. Mambo - A fast Latin dance, similar to Salsa, which comes from Cuba. Can be danced in small places and it will keep you moving to Latin rhythms. Rumba - "Dance of Romance" A Latin dance characterized by sensual, provocative movements and gestures, Latin-style hip motion, and playful, flirtatious interplay between a man and lady. Samba - A rhythmical Brazilian dance noted for its distinct style of movement, which incorporates both Latin hip motion and the signature "Samba bounce". Quickstep - The Quickstep was originally a march which became popular about 1850. Today's Ballroom Quickstep when mixed with the Charleston was originally known as the Fast Foxtrot, however when the Fast Foxtrot was slowed down in music tempo, the faster version became known as the 'Quick-Time Foxtrot' or just Quickstep. Bolero - The Spanish Bolero (Spain's National Dance) was one of love and romance. The Bolero would be accepted all over the world for its lovely rhythms.
